Association costs population × reference points distance evaluations per
generation, so the count is a per-generation cost; 4096 is far above any
practical lattice (Deb & Jain’s largest is 275) while bounding it. A
Das–Dennis lattice that would exceed it is built with fewer divisions, down
to one division (the axis directions, one point per objective, so only a
study with more objectives than this exceeds it);
with_reference_points refuses a larger set.
