Module protocol 

The env-var handshake between the harness and the per-trial child.

The subprocess executor spawns the oniro-trial child once per trial (per replicate) and steers it entirely through the environment. The executor itself sets the trial identity and the per-replicate seed (atune::exec::ENV_SEED, the common-random-numbers seed under a paired SeedProtocol); the harness sets the oniro-specific variables below through Subprocess::env; and the sampled parameter values arrive as ATUNE_PARAM_<dotted.key> because the harness turns on Subprocess::export_params.

Keeping these names in one module means the harness (which sets them) and the child (which reads them) can never drift apart.

Constants

ENV_BASE_CONFIG

Path to the base RunConfig TOML the trial config is layered on top of.

ENV_DEADLINE_MS

Wall-clock budget, in milliseconds, for one child invocation. The child converts this to one monotonic absolute deadline at startup, shared by training and metric collection; the outer executor uses the same value for its process-tree timeout.

ENV_EVAL_EPISODES

The number of greedy episodes oniro_cli eval averages (eval mode only).

ENV_OBJECTIVE

The objective source: eval (greedy re-evaluation, the default) or meta (the training run’s final metric). See ObjectiveSource.

ENV_ONIRO_CLI

Path to the oniro_cli binary (or a contract-compatible stand-in).

ENV_RUN_ROOT

Directory under which each trial’s oniro run directory is created.
